Even though not official before 1981, the history dates back to 1857. The celebration was initially seven days, and then extended to a celebration lasting for thirty days.
There are two holidays that celebrate women during the month of March. One is International Women's Day on the 8th of the month, and the other recognizes that there are 157.2 million women in America, about 4 million more than men in the country.
It is very impressive that today there is about 8 million businesses owned by women in the United States, collectively earning $1.2 trillion. That is why the theme for International Women's Day this year is "Success in the Globally Integrated Enterprise."
Many events will be held everywhere in honor of International Women's Day. Check the list to see where you could go! Even if you don't do anything special, it's a great time to think about the women in your life who have helped make you who you are today
